Our First Real Winter Adventure

Our First  Real Winter Adventure

Shelly and I have known each other for more than thirty-five years.  We have never gone on an extended cold weather trip together.  Our idea of a Winter vacation has always been something more like this:

USVI

Trunk Bay USVI

This is another place we have found ourselves in the depths of Winter: Continue reading

After Hearing That Nothing Could Stop Me

Editor’s Note:

We met Kevin VanEmburgh (Twitter: @kvanemburgh)  about six weeks ago.  He is a fellow Kansas Citian and National Park lover.  He enthusiastically told us about his plans to visit all 59 of the National Parks.  He asked us a few questions and we told him what we knew.  Please enjoy reading his inspiration below and wish him luck as he begins his journey on Monday, January 5th.  We have included a few of his sunrise/sunset photos from a recent trip to Yellowstone. Stoked in Sedona

Stoked in Sedona

As frequently has happened on our journey, we were invited to hike in Sedona, Arizona by  someone we had met via Twitter.  When Scott Gilbert (@azhiker) reached out to us, we were stoked.  We don’t know Sedona and were grateful for the guidance and the company.  Scott owns an Arizona guide service called Trek Arizona.   He guides people of all abilities at Sedona, Flagstaff and the Grand Canyon.  Scott is knowledgeable about the Grand Canyon State and has a deep passion for Arizona.  We recommend his service wholeheartedly. Meeting David Wherry

Meeting David Wherry

I admit I was nervous about meeting David Wherry.  He is an accomplished hiker that has completed a number of extreme adventures.  Heck, this year he hiked rim-to-rim-to-rim at the Grand Canyon in under 24 hours.  He has a popular blog about hiking and adventuring.  To this day, his guest post about age and his grandfather is still the most read piece on this website.  I have only been able to get to the third spot.  He has a travel and adventure portfolio that makes this road warrior’s head spin.  The thought of hiking with him was a bit intimidating.  Could I keep up or would he leave me in the dust?
