A Little Email Inspiration

A Little Email Inspiration

It’s true, we get a lot of inspiration from nature and from the photographs we take like the one below.  We get just as much inspiration from the people we meet–both in person and via social media.  We hear from people all of the time through the contact form on this site.  Below you can read what our new friend Lydia wrote to us recently.  We really got a charge out of her emails. Dark Skies at Great Basin National Park

Dark Skies at Great Basin National Park

The modest welcome sign and dry landscape at Great Basin National Park, Nevada can be deceptive.  This small gem of a Park offers spring fed mountain streams, alpine forests, and a peak which rises more than 13,000 feet above sea level. Lehman caves amazes visitors and wildlife abounds.  Perhaps the biggest treat at Great Basin is the nightly sky show.  The remoteness of the Park assures a brilliant view of the Milky Way on clear nights.  We can’t get enough of the dark skies at Great Basin National Park. Missouri Howell–The Camping Trip

Missouri Howell–The Camping Trip

Jeff Howell (@MissouriHowell on Twitter) and I had talked about going camping for quite some time.  We finally settled on Knob Noster State Park in western Missouri a few weeks ago.  As July 25th approached we realized that we faced extreme heat.  We speculated about moving the date when the forecast called for a 110 degree heat index.  Ultimately we decided to go for it.  We are tough men after all. Acknowledgement Page

Editor’s Note:

We are working on our book about our 59 National Park journey. To date, we have completed our Acknowledgements, Forward and Chapter One which is titled “The Seed”. We wanted to share our Acknowledgements. As we go along we will be sharing a few of the chapters here. Chapter Three is titled “The Departure”.  Look for it sometime in August.

The Book

Acknowledgements

We are so grateful to our family without whom our 59 National Park Adventure would not have been possible.  Our sons Andy and Matt enthusiastically supported our crazy idea and gave encouragement for us to stay the course when we considered ending our trip prematurely.  Our sisters and brothers-in-laws were so gracious by allowing us to stay with them when we needed breather from the grind of the road.  Thank you so much Sherry and Mike Gietzen of Pryor, Oklahoma and Vickey Mark Crouch of Shawnee, Kansas. Shelly’s mother Fran Seeley also kindly  gave us a place to lie our heads and frequently watched our dogs Bubba and Lilly.  Finally we give our heartfelt thanks to Shelly’s father Bob Seeley.  He was our most enthusiastic supporter.

We were blessed to meet so many fantastic people via social media on our journey.  There are just too many to mention here. There are several chapters of this book devoted to our new friends from Twitter and Instagram.

Denali National Park, Jewel of the Park System

Denali National Park, Jewel of the Park System

Denali National Park is the park of parks, the jewel of the National Park system.  Thirty-three percent  of the park’s 6,000,000 acres are  designated as wilderness.   Visitors will recognize that almost all of the park is a wilderness, technicalities aside.  Sixteen percent  of its acreage is covered by glaciers.  The park features Alaskan culture, excellent back country hiking, diverse wildlife and one of the most beautiful landscapes in the United States.  Of course, Denali is home to America’s highest peak Mount McKinley.  Continue reading
